JPP Youth Spotlight: A Future Neurosurgeon with a Passion for Helping Others

Meet Yareli. This determined, compassionate high school sophomore has a passion for helping others and big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon. JPP has worked with Yareli over the past three years, watching her excel in Jeffco Schools and earn recognition as an honors student demonstrating excellence in both French and Spanish. Yareli serves as a role model and advocate for JPP youth, regularly volunteering as a bilingual translator for Spanish-speaking families, and assisting with childcare.

This summer, Yareli has an incredible opportunity to attend the prestigious Medicine and Health Care High School Summer Program at Duke University. Part of the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC), this program will give Yareli hands-on experience as a physician, practicing surgical skills, collaborating with medical teams to diagnose patients, and engaging in conversations about public health issues with her peers. Additionally, she will earn college credit for her participation, bringing her one step closer to her dream.

JPP believes that breaking the cycle of poverty starts with youth having access to high-quality education and opportunities to create the careers of their dreams.

Yareli and many other JPP youth inspire us as they pursue their dreams with passion and perseverance, supported by a community that embraces their entire family. As JPP walks alongside Yareli in her journey toward becoming a neurosurgeon, we are reminded of the potential for greatness within every individual, regardless of background or circumstances.
